Our litho and digital book printing presses
MPG Biddles' litho printing facility accommodates a wide variety of book sizes. Our Heidelberg sheet-fed presses can produce
either monochrome or two-colour perfected sheets of half-tone
and text work to the very highest standards. These machines are typically used for run lengths of 750 copies upwards.
Our Nipson Varypress and Océ VarioStream digital web presses offers monochrome printing at a quality comparable to litho printing. These machines are typically used for run lengths of between 100 and 750 copies.
Our Xerox iGen3 digital sheet fed press offers exceptionally high quality monochrome and colour printing and is ideally suited to books containing text and integrated photographs. The machine is used for run lengths of between 100 up to a maximum of 500 copies.
| Benefits of digital printing: | |
| • | Cheaper printing costs for short-run books mean added opportunities for new or specialist authors |
| • | More competitive pricing on special interest books |
| • | Freedom to reproduce unexpectedly fast-moving titles quickly and efficiently |
| • | Publishers can economically order, say, two printings of 500 rather than one order of 1000 |
| • | Security of being able to generate reprints virtually on demand |
| • | Risk of redundant stock is reduced and warehouse space is minimised |
But is the print quality as good
as litho?
The quality of text printing is comparable with traditional
litho, but at an affordable cost.
Can the digital presses produce all book
sizes?
Royal and Demy are the most popular book sizes, although all
standard UK book sizes can be produced.
