Files formats for text (litho and digital web production)
Our preferred format for text files is a print ready PDF saved as one PDF file single page to view with fonts embedded and crop marks selected. Please do not save each page as individual PDF's - we will be unable to use files supplied in this way. We have provided Distiller setting files below that you can download and import into Adobe Acrobat which are specifically set up for our presses.
We can also accept application files created in Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress and Pagemaker (up to version 6.5) but please note there will be an additional charge to convert these to print ready PDF's. If you are supplying application files then we will also require any font or image files.
Files formats for text (iGen mono and colour production)
If you are supplying files for production on our iGen press then please contact Eve Limeburner, our Pre Press Manager, for advice on how to set up the files. Click here to send her an e-mail or 'phone 01553 816123 to speak to her directly.
Files formats for plate sections
Our preferred format for plate sections files is a print ready PDF saved as one PDF file for each section single page to view with crop marks. Please remember to embedded any fonts and ensure that image files are at least 300 dpi and saved as CMYK.
If you are scanning images to be reproduced in a plate section then these should be scanned as .eps or .tiff files, please avoid .jpeg.
The final resolution of images should be (screen ruling x scale x 2). Our screen ruling is 150lpi. If you have any queries regarding scanning images then please contact Eve Limeburner, our Pre Press Manager, either by 'phoning 01553 816123 or e-mail: elimeburner@biddles.co.uk
Files formats for covers
Our preferred format for cover files is an application file created in Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress or Pagemaker (up to version 6.5). Please remember to send us any font or image files which should be at least 300 dpi and saved as CMYK. Having application files allows us to easily change spine widths, drop in barcodes etc. on your behalf if required. However we are more than happy to accept a cover file as a print ready PDF.
When supplying Biddles with pre-printed covers, please ensure that:
The ISBN is the same inside
the book as appears on the cover.
When supplying pre-printed covers for paperback books with
flaps: please allow an additional
10mm at the foot of the cover to allow us to produce
tuck in flaps.
